Phoenix AZ

Aug 2008

We are happy to say all Northwest nonstop flights went smoothly and were, for the most part, on time.

We rented a car with Thrifty Car Rental and had the opportunity to check out the new Car Rental Facility near the Phoenix airport. All passengers renting cars must now board a shuttle bus just outside baggage claim in the lower level of the Phoenix airport. The buses take you to a brand new facility which houses all rental car companies. Locate your car rental company counters located on the main floor. Once the paperwork is completed, you will be directed to escalators or elevators downstairs to where the vehicles are kept. Be sure to get directions on the proper exit to take out of the facility.

Everything is very well marked for your return to the rental facility. Once you return the car, you will need to board a bus to get back to the airport. BE SURE to read the signs as to which terminal your bus goes to, as all buses do not go to all terminals!!

We stayed at the lovely Sheraton Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Arizona. This property is situated on a Native American reservation and is themed as such. There are many markers as to native plants, design and rituals.

The pool area is spacious and has a pool bar/restaurant. There is also a waterslide for the kids and active adults!

There are restaurants and shops in this resort hotel, as well as a spa and casino. However, you must take a shuttle to get to the spa and casino as they are not located in the main building. Horseback riding is also offered.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable and very well appointed and calming. There is a minibar with treats for purchase. Coffee makers and ironing boards are in all rooms. The bathrooms have gorgeous tile, "Shine” amenities, soaking tubs and glass-door showers. Internet is available in the guest rooms at the current charge of $12.95 per day. It is free in the lobby areas.

This resort is slightly off of the beaten path, so I would suggest a car rental if you want to get out and about in the Phoenix area. There is a car rental desk on site.

We explored other restaurants in the Chandler area. We visited a Thai restaurant and a wine bar, as well as an Arriba's Mexican restaurant. And of course, a bit of shopping at SteinMart was in order as well!

The weather was hot, hot, hot!!! Plus, it had been raining a lot so it was humid as well. Ugh!!!
